| Italy gets a taste of PEFC-certified beer

| PEFC Italia: PEFC Italy has announced the first beer eligible to carry a PEFC label. The label indicates that the product is linked to sustainably managed forests. The beer, brewed by the Italian-based Gino Perisutti company, contains spruce bark ('Blonde PEFC Mountain Pale Lager'), mountain pine buds ('Grand Cru Mountain Amber Ale'), and Scotch pine needles from PEFC certified forests.

| Asian stakeholders to provide input into PEFC Chain of Custody revision

| PEFC International: The third in a series of workshops aimed at gathering stakeholder input for the revision of PEFC's International Chain of Custody will take place in Tokyo, Japan, on 7th July 2009. The chain of custody is an important element in forest certification as it establishes a verifiable link from the certified forest to the final product.

| PEFC seeks comments on BWI proposal on PEFC's Chain of Custody standard

| PEFC has received comprehensive comments on the draft of its revised Chain of Custody Standard from Building and Wood Workers' International (BWI). As the enquiry draft of the new standard has already been made available for public consultation, PEFC seeks now comments from stakeholders on the changes proposed by BWI, which concern specifically social and labour requirements.

| PEFC Denmark was founded in 1999 and PEFC Council endorsed the Danish scheme the first time in October 2002. The Scheme has been re-endorsed march 2008. Currently, the country has 218000 hectares of certified forest land, 35 Chain of Custody certificates and 39 PEFC licences.

| The revision of the PEFC Finnish forest certification criteria is completed

| PEFC Finland: The PEFC Forest Certification Standard Setting Working Group approved the revised forest management requirements for PEFC forest certification in Finland unanimously. The Group, which consisted of 40 different parties with an interest in forests and their sustainable management (Annex 1), started the revision in September 2008.
