| PEFC advances sustainable forest management in China

| PEFC China: Responding to requests by stakeholder for information about the organisation's activities in China, PEFC's local office has compiled a newsletter in English to update on recent developments. It reports that it has advanced its cooperation with local authorities, NGOs, forest managers, and the wood products industry. The organisation has also established links with the State Forestry Administration of China (SFA), which has shown strong interest in PEFC membership and is considering entering the PEFC endorsement process.

| Public consultation – revision of both the PEFC Logo usage and chain of custody rules

| The PEFC Council invites users of the PEFC scheme as well as consumers of PEFC certified products, other stakeholders and its members to contribute to the revision of both the PEFC Logo usage rules (Annex 5 of the PEFC TD) and PEFC chain of custody standard (Annex 4 of the PEFC TD). Comments, experience and expectations relating to those key elements of the PEFC scheme should be submitted to the PEFC Council by 30th April 2008.

| PEFC Position Paper: WWF new Paper Scorecard - room for improvement

| WWF published its WWF Paper Scorecard at the end of last year. PEFC Council has welcomed WWF’s acknowledgement that “several schemes have made contributions to improving forest management”. However this is not reflected in the scorecard, and an opportunity to make the scorecard a really useful tool has been missed.
