French DIY retailers support all forest certification schemes

The Federation of French Do It Yourself retailers (Federation des Magasins de Bricolage - FMB) has decided to support all forest certification schemes. This information was confirmed in a letter from Mr Pascal Malfoy, president of FMB to Mr Henri Plauche-Gillon, president of PEFC.

FMB is the association of French large Do-It-Yourself retailers (e.g. Castorama, BricoDepot, Leroy Merlin, Mr Bricolage, etc.) selling about 60 000 products with turnover about 10,87 billions Euros.

The FMB's (Federation of French DIY Retailers) Commission for Sustainable Development has for several years been participating in reflections on and the sharing of ideas concerning the marketing of wood from sustainably managed forests.

The DIY members of FMB are committed to the development of a policy for sustainable forest management throughout the world, wood being the only primary renewable and recyclable raw material that helps in the fight against the greenhouse effect.

The promotion of wood based products will be through certification. The DIY retailers wish to offer wood from certified sustainably managed forests but note that there are several labels.

This being the case, and in the absence of mutual recognition between the different systems, a fact that FMB regrets, the FMB has decided to support all the certification systems.

Please find below the original letter in French and its translation into English.
