PEFC Notification of Certification Bodies by PEFC Council (PEFC GD 1006:2010)

Only certification bodies in compliance with PEFC requirements and recognized by PEFC by are authorized to provide PEFC Chain of Custody certification services. Requirements include, for example, that the certification body is accredited by the relevant national accreditation body, which in turn must be a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) to demonstrate competence and independence.

Authorization – or "notification" - is granted by "authorized bodies" - usually national PEFC members - in countries where these exists, and by the PEFC Council in countries where they don't exist. PEFC GD 1006:2010 contains requirements for certification bodies providing chain of custody certification services in countries without authorised bodies.

 

Introduction
PEFC certification shall be carried out by third party certification bodies, which are accredited by a national accreditation body which is a member or a part of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) in order to demonstrate its competence and independence. PEFC notification establishes a necessary link between the accredited certification bodies and the scheme owner (PEFC) and allows certification bodies to issue PEFC recognised certificates. This document is based on Chapter 6 of Annex 6 of the Technical Document.

 

Scope
This document describes procedures for the issuance of PEFC notification to certification bodies operating PEFC Chain of Custody certification in countries without authorised bodies.
