Project Officer to support PEFC’s expansion in Southeast Asia

The Project Officer will support PEFC’s expanding profile of work in Southeast Asia, with expertise on certification and supply chain management.

Their main objective is the engagement and support of the private sector and certification bodies to deliver PEFC. The Officer will work along with the PEFC Southeast Asia Development Officer and the PEFC International office based in Geneva, Switzerland. 

Specifically, the Officer will contribute to the following PEFC projects:

Asia Promotions Initiative

Working to raise awareness, build capacity and encourage the uptake of PEFC certification throughout Asia. There are already PEFC Asia Promotion offices in Beijing and Ho Chi Minh, and PEFC National members in China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

The Officer will increase PEFC’s presence and availability throughout Southeast Asia and support the ongoing implementation of the Asia Promotions regional work plan in collaboration with PEFC International, members and partners.

Expanding Chain of Custody Globally

Current pilot projects are ongoing Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, and there is potential to expand in new locations.

While projects are implemented by local organizations, international partners and/or PEFC members, the Officer will contribute to develop the demand and the engagement of companies of the timber sector. As innovation and cooperation are fundamental aspects of expanding forest certification into new areas, the Officer will support PEFC’s active contribution during project implementation.  

More broadly throughout the region, the Officer will support PEFC’s expanding profile and stakeholder network by strengthening partnerships, relationships with key private sector associations and organizations, and delivering training and capacity building support.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • University degree(s) in Forestry, Agribusiness, Supply Chains Management, Natural Resources Management or related studies (advanced degree preferred);
  • A proven track record in supporting communication and stakeholder engagement efforts in Asia, and if possible, in forestry supply chains;
  • Extensive knowledge of natural resources certification;
  • Implementing or auditing Chain of Custody certification a strong advantage;
  • Project management and supporting ongoing fundraising efforts;
  • Ability to facilitate trainings, organize and run seminars;
  • Flexible, pro-active and dynamic. Able to work autonomously but in close connection with PEFC International. Fluent in English.


Potential for a contract extension may exist but is dependent upon performance and funding availability. The ideal time commitment is estimated at 22 days/month, but the specific terms can be agreed with the ideal candidate.  

The Officer must be based in the Southeast Asia region (although specific location is flexible), and willing to travel throughout the region.
