Asia-Pacific Forestry Week
Asia-Pacific Forestry Week (APFW2019) will be one of the largest and most important forestry gatherings in the Asia-Pacific region in 2019.
'Forests for peace and well-being' is the overall theme of APFW2019. It reflects the positive dimensions of forestry and suggests the need to proactively integrate forestry into the wider context of environment, society, and sustainable development, under which economic, social, human and cultural dimensions are considered in a holistic manner.
Reimagining sustainable forest certification: realizing impacts in Asia Pacific
Join our parallel event, part of stream 5, as we gather a range of speakers to discuss PEFC's impact after 20 years of caring for forests globally and locally.
15.30 - 17.00, Tuesday 18 June
The first of two panel sessions will look at how forest certification has contributed to sustainability and facilitation of trade. Opened with a keynote speech by Ben Gunneberg, PEFC International CEO, the panel includes speakers from the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC), APP and Tesco.
The second panel session focuses on emerging initiatives to realize sustainable forest management. Facilitated by David Syme, an expert in forest certification and quality management, the panel includes representatives from Korea and Vietnam, as well as APRIL and the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR).
Development of synergies between PEFC and other initiatives such as FLEGT utilizing experience in ASEAN

Through this session, we look to develop initiatives to synergize FLEGT and certification using a common infrastructure.
