Call for research institute to partner on PEFC impact measurement project

19 June 2023 PEFC system news

PEFC is launching a project to measure the impact of sustainable forest management certification in European forests. We are looking to partner with a research institute to take the project to an exciting and robust level.

Society and markets are increasingly demanding proof of the impact of voluntary forest certification on the ground. This project will look to provide a clear view of the elements where PEFC forest certification demonstrates positive impacts in European forests. It also aims to provide a methodology to investigate the impacts of forest certification that can be applied in other regions.

We are looking for a well-established forest research organisation that operates internationally with a strong knowledge of European forestry (context, issues, etc.). The organisation should be able to mobilise a team of scientists that can run both the desk and field study (see the Terms of Reference below for more details).

The project is scheduled to last three years and focuses on European countries. It is divided into two phases: a desk study and a field verification. The two phases are separate, enabling the results of phase one to define phase two.

The research institute will conduct both phases of the project, with PEFC supporting them throughout the project's progress. PEFC national members will also be involved at the appropriate time, giving the studies the ground level required to deliver the most accurate results.

For more information, please see the Terms of References, which will give you a more detailed understanding of the project:
