In PEFC Austria’s photo contest “Mein Wald – Meine Geschichte” (My forest – My story), participants shared their favourite forest moments.

“The aim of the photo contest is to highlight the importance of Austrian forests and sustainable forest management. We are very happy about the more than 860 entries and the huge interest”, says DI Gerhard Pichler, director of PEFC Austria.

It has snowed

Marlies Schnabel won first prize with her photo ‘Bewegung’ (Movement), taken in Lassing, Lower Austria. “I took the photo when I was proudly looking at the result of my hard work,” she explains.

Bernhard Schieder came in second with his image ‘Es hat geschneit’ (It has snowed). Taken in Steinbüchl in Styria, Austria, the photo shows the photographer’s daughter exploring the snowy forest.

Karoline Rais took third place with her photo ‘Grüner See’ (Green Lake), taken in Styria, Austria. “The nature reserve with the Green Lake and the surrounding fir forests is one of the most beautiful natural phenomena in Austria,” she says.

All photos entered into the Austrian contest can be seen on Instagram under the hashtag #meinwaldmoment.

The prizes

For first place, Ms. Schnabel receives a Sony Alpha 6000 system camera.

Mr. Schieder wins an arolla pine wellness package full of PEFC-certified products, and Ms. Rais PEFC-certified wood charcoal and forest beer for the next barbecue.

Experience Forests, Experience PEFC

PEFC Austria’s contest was one of 16 national photo contests run by PEFC members. The best photos from the national contests will enter into the international contest and compete for the 2018 PEFC Photographer of the Year Award! The winners of the award will be announced in November 2018 and will receive a trip to Geneva, Switzerland to attend the 2018 PEFC Forest Certification Week or a cash prize of 3000 CHF.
