Nepal Earthquake Support Program Update

7 January 2016 News

Last April, a devastating earthquake hit Nepal, leaving thousands without a home. Responding to the desperate needs of local communities in highly affected districts, the Green Relief and Rehabilitation Fund (GRRF) was established – a consortium of well-established non-profit organizations working in Nepal.

To help support the important relief efforts of our NGO partners in Nepal, we set up a fund raising website on their behalf, transferring all funds received to Green Foundation Nepal so that they could procure tents and other urgent supplies.

“I would like to thank you for your support to make relief support program in Nepal earthquake victims’ area. Now we are planning to support the reconstruction of houses and school building in coming days. Your support and cooperation is highly appreciated,” said Ghan Shyam Pandey, Chairperson of Green Foundation Nepal/Advisor to FECOFUN/Coordinator for Global Alliance for Community Forests.

With the funds raised through the fundraising website and other sources, the GRRF team was able to distribute relief materials and build temporary shelters for those families who were severely affected by the earthquake, in eight districts (Gorkha, Kavre, Shindhu, Makawanpur, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur) of Nepal.

Altogether more than 3,500 tarpaulin (tents), including metrecs, a blanket and a mosquito net, were distributed in a complete set to 4,000 severely affected families in eight districts. Moreover, 13 temporary shelters were built and handed over to earthquake victim families in Lapsephedi VDC, ward no. 6 of Kathmandu districts.
