When I am in a forest, I feel calm and relaxed

This September, Tina Krapež, a runner up in our 2018 ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest, tells us about her photo ‘Walking towards the light’, and the magic of forests in the fog.

How do you feel about forests, both professionally and personally?

I simply adore nature and I love forests! When I am in a forest, surrounded by trees, and I only hear birds singing and the wind blowing through the branches, I feel calm and relaxed. I am happy to live in an area where this is always accessible.

How did the forest inspire you to take your winning photo?

I took my photo at one of my favorite hiking spots in Ljubljana, in the Šmarna Gora urban forest. I've been there many times, mostly in the early morning to see a magnificent sunrise. When I took the photo, sun rays penetrated through the dense fog and passed the tree branches. I couldn’t just pass by – I had to take a picture!

I am very fond of forests in the fog. For many people, they don’t seem special, but I see the magic in them. This was one of the scenes that I will always remember. Just like with all good pictures, this was taken at the right time in the right place.

What you think of the work that an organization such as PEFC does to care for forests?

I did not know PEFC until I saw your photo contest. Now that I know the organization and what it is doing, I am glad to be a small part of “caring for our forests”.
