Tree house: PEFC-certified timber makes visitors want to return to their childhood

4 October 2019 Construction

Award winning tree house designer and manufacturer Blue Forest has built a retreat high up in the trees – with PEFC-certified timber.

The building was constructed using 500 metres of PEFC-certified Western Red Cedar cladding.

Consisting of five individual sections, which were all pre-fabricated off site, the house was assembled and cladded in only nine days.

Back to nature

The tree house was designed for the Chelsea Flower Show in London. One of the star attractions, it illustrated the show’s theme of ‘Back to Nature’.

Located in a garden co-designed by HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, the tree house encouraged children and families to reconnect with nature.

A surprising interior

Two spiral staircases lead to the entrance of the tree house and the large outdoor deck. Entering the dwelling, visitors find an interior far away from what most would expect…

A cloakroom provides space for leaving coats and shoes before entering the large open-plan living area with a fully functional kitchenette.

Purpose-built furniture and a comfortable reading nook give the tree house a special, cosy touch. While bi-folding doors allow lots of natural light and airflow to enter the home.

A second life

After the show closed, the tree house was dismantled and moved to its permanent home, the Chewton Hotel in Hampshire, where it is sure to prove popular with visitors of all ages.
