Webinar: Introduction to the PEFC Project Sourcing standard

Webinar: Introduction to the PEFC Project Sourcing standard

Standard introduction webinar

PEFC has launched a 60-day public consultation on the revision of its Project Certification requirements, which are now evolving into the new PEFC Project Sourcing standard.

To support stakeholders in understanding the proposed changes and to encourage feedback, we are hosting a 60-minute webinar on 10 November 2025, at 10:00 CET.

Participation is free of charge, but registration is required - register for the webinar

About the webinar

This webinar will introduce the draft PEFC Project Sourcing standard, which sets out how organisations can demonstrate that all wood-based materials used in projects come from sustainably managed sources.

When we talk about “projects” in this context, we mean any type of building, renovation, or creative work such as buildings, parks, artworks, or other developments where timber and forest and tree-based materials are used.

The PEFC Project Sourcing standard bridges the gap between PEFC Chain of Custody and the built environment by ensuring continuity of traceability of forest and tree-based materials until the end project, enabling non-certified project members to participate. This mechanism helps ensure credible sustainability claims from design through to completion.

You’ll also learn why PEFC has revised its previous Project Certification approach, the key innovations in the new standard, and how it better supports green building frameworks and responsible material sourcing.

Importantly, participants will discover how to take part in the public consultation and contribute valuable feedback to help shape the final version of the standard.

What you’ll learn

During the session, PEFC experts will cover:

  • The background and objectives behind the new Project Sourcing standard
  • How the revision supports responsible sourcing and complements green building certifications such as LEED and BREEAM
  • Key innovations, including:
    1. Multi-project certification, enabling organisations to certify multiple projects efficiently
    2. SME inclusion, reducing barriers for smaller enterprises
    3. The applicant project approach, offering greater flexibility in project participation and communication
  • Practical examples of how the standard can be applied
  • How to review the draft and submit your comments during the consultation period

Who should attend

The webinar will be of particular interest to all those involved in construction, design, and responsible sourcing of forest-based materials, including:

  • Construction and engineering firms
  • Developers, contractors
  • Architecture and design studios
  • Project management and procurement firms
  • Green building and sustainability professionals
  • Government agencies and regulators involved in building or environmental standards
  • Industry associations in construction, furniture, or materials sectors
  • Certification and accreditation bodies

Background

The development of the PEFC Project Sourcing standard reflects PEFC’s commitment to ensuring that sustainability extends beyond the forest and through the construction and design sectors.

By providing a credible way to verify that all timber and wood-based materials in a project come from sustainably managed forests, the standard enhances transparency, supports green building certification, and facilitates responsible material sourcing.
