PEFC chain of custody training for certification bodies
In order to qualify for PEFC chain of custody certification according to the 2020 version of PEFC ST 2003, auditors, certification decision makers and reviewers have to attend an initial training recognized by PEFC. Once qualified, they are required to complete a refresher training once every two years and when there is a new issuance of the PEFC Chain of Custody or Trademarks standards.
This training helps ensure your personnel are up-to-date with the PEFC Chain of Custody standard and our expectations, clarifications and interpretations. It also allows us to exchange experiences and to receive valuable feedback on the implementation of the standard.
Only chain of custody training recognized by PEFC International is valid for the qualification and continued qualification of personnel. If you are unsure whether a training course is PEFC-recognized, please contact us at email@example.com. Any training advertised on this website will meet this requirement.
PEFC organized training for auditors, reviewers and certification decision makers
We organize various trainings throughout the year for auditors, reviewers and certification decision makers. These trainings are carried out by recognized PEFC International ‘technical experts’. Depending on whether the training is initial or refresher, and by whom it is conducted, the training may take place in person, or online.
Our training is based on interactivity, practical examples, open question and answer sessions, and dedicated group work (in-person training only). This training enables auditors to benefit from the knowledge provided by our technical specialists, as well as from experience exchange between each other.
Please find a complete list of our upcoming trainings to the right, and you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Make sure you sign up to our newsletter (at the bottom of this page) to ensure you get all the latest training news and dates.
PEFC recognition of certification body internal training
Through our PEFC Training Recognition Programme (TRP), certification bodies can get formal recognition of their internal PEFC chain of custody training programme and carry out internal trainings in compliance with PEFC's requirements.
The main advantage is that you do not have to plan how and when every individual participant can attend a training organized by PEFC. Instead, you can decide yourself when to train them.
The steps to PEFC recognition
The TRP consists of different steps. Firstly, you identify at least one technical expert to be the coordinator at certification body level. This person needs to comply with the requirements of a qualified auditor. The coordinator will be the main contact point for the programme recognition, will coordinate with PEFC International, and will attend:
- In person training sessions
- Updates calls
- Continuous communication and follow up
We organize regular update meetings to inform you on recent developments, the latest Q&As, etc. during the validity of the training recognition. These regular meetings help you keep your personnel up-to-date. They also aim at providing options for you to give your feedback to PEFC, and identify potential needs or subjects that need further clarification.
Once developed, you will need to submit the content and process description of your internal PEFC training to PEFC International. Your internal training will be assessed against the PEFC International training framework (currently under development). Once we have positively verified the process description and training content, we award the PEFC recognition.
As part of the training recognition, a technical expert from PEFC International may also accompany you in some of your trainings.
After you have trained your auditors, certification decision makers and reviewers, they just need to pass the knowledge test on our online training platform to obtain a recognized certificate.
How to participate
If your certification body would like to participate in the TRP and start to provide internal PEFC training to auditors, you can sign up for the next scheduled PEFC TRP event, or contact us at email@example.com.
If your internal PEFC chain of custody training programme was recognized by PEFC through the TRP, you will need to get it recognized again before offering certification for the revised standards.
We are currently revising our TRP programme conditions, including the development of a set of requirements to assess internal training programmes. More information will be available soon.
