This August, our photo of the month is In the Magical Forest, taken by Radoslav Černický in Slovakia. The gorgeous photo was among the finalists in our 2022 PEFC Photo Contest. In our interview, the photographer shared how it came about and what makes it so magical.

How do you feel about forests, both professionally and personally?

Forests have been a second home for me since childhood. They are places for me where I can totally relax and recharge.

How did the forest inspire you to take your winning photo?

During the pandemic I had limited movement to take pictures, so I searched for places near to my home. And this was exactly where I liked to go. There are old trees that can literally enchant a person and you have a feeling that no one has ever been there before you. In this case, the feeling was enhanced by the mood after the rain, when the fog began to clear, and the first rays of sunlight penetrated the trees.

What do you think about the work that an organization such as PEFC does to care for forests?

As a father of two children, I see the work of PEFC even more positively, as I think that this certification project is one of the tools that can ensure that my children can also visit a healthy forest at any time. I firmly believe that there will be more and more such forests in the world.
