The forest is life – every day, it writes a new script, and we can be part of it

This April, our Photo of the Month is 'New Life'. Taken by Peter Hozza in Slovakia, it shows a fox cub wandering through the forest. The photo was one of the winners of PEFC Slovakia’s 2022 Photo Contest, and a finalist in the International contest.

4 April 2023 Forests in photos

This month we discover another finalist from our 2022 Photo Contest: 'New Life', taken by Peter Hozza. In our interview, the photographer shared what the forest means to him and how his love for nature came about.

How do you feel about forests, both professionally and personally?

I have a forestry education and graduated from forestry school, and my attitude towards forests is very positive. I am in the forest every day, as I am fully involved in wildlife photography.

Forest is life! Every day, it writes a new script, and we can be part of it, if we let ourselves be drawn into it. We may or may not be able to influence this story.

How did the forest inspire you to take your winning photo?

The forest has inspired me since I was a child, and I think you must be born with a feeling for nature and a love for it. That's how my photographs started. One of them is the photo of a fox cub, wandering in a mysterious forest.

What do you think about the work that an organization such as PEFC does to care for forests?

Nowadays environmental standards are very necessary. Thanks to the PEFC label, customers can trust that the timber products come from sustainably managed forests. For that you have my thumbs up.
