Give your feedback on the national systems of Bulgaria, India and Thailand

23 July 2018 PEFC system news

PEFC invites stakeholders around the world to comment on the national systems of Bulgaria, India and Thailand, following their submission to PEFC for endorsement. To give your feedback, head to our Online Consultation Tool.

This is the first time that these national forest certification systems have been submitted, marking an important step towards PEFC certification in the countries.

The Network for Certification and Conservation of Forests (NCCF), our national member in India, joined the PEFC alliance in 2015. Since then, they have been working with stakeholders from around the country to develop the national sustainable forest management standard – no small job in a country the size of India!

The Federation of Thai Industries (F.T.I.) also joined the PEFC alliance in 2016. In order to ensure the efficient development and implementation of their national system, the PEFC Collaboration Fund is supporting a project by F.T.I. to prepare the country as it moves towards PEFC endorsement.

The Council for Sustainable Forest Management and Certification in Bulgaria joined the PEFC alliance just one year ago, in May 2017. We have been supporting projects in the Balkans since the first Collaboration Fund in 2011. Thanks to our international stakeholder member Connecting Natural Values and People Foundation (CNVP), we now use a regional approach to increase forest certification in the region.

The PEFC endorsement process

The 60-day global public consultation is a vital part of the PEFC endorsement process. It is your chance to comment and provide feedback on any aspect of the national system.

The PEFC Registered Assessor that carries out the assessment will use the information received from this consultation to help determine the compliance of the national system with our international requirements.

Once the national system has successfully passed the assessment, the PEFC General Assembly votes on its endorsement. A two-thirds majority is required for a system to be endorsed.
