Fundació Privada ILERSIS: a company to improve the world

by Teresa Benet Balagueró, CEO of ILERSIS

ilersis logoIn 1975, 14 families from Lleida, in northeastern Spain, founded Associació Shalom, a non-profit social entity declared as being of public interest.

Our mission is the social and labor integration of people with intellectual disability or mental illness, ensuring their continuity within the social scope of the entity and covering their needs in any situation of their life.

In 2013, the association became a foundation, under the denomination of Fundació Privada ILERSIS.

Our organization has a Disability Care Center with occupational therapy and residency and sheltered housing services, and a Special Employment Center in which 164 people with disabilities work, representing 70% of our staff.

We have multiple business areas, although the oldest is carpentry, where we manufacture boxes and wooden cases, and a large number of high-quality ad-hoc solutions, backed by our more than 30 years of experience.

Our company aims to achieve excellence through social responsibility, social innovation and environmental responsibility. We are certified to ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 14001 for the Environment, ISO 14064 for greenhouse gas emissions and we have an Integrated Management System. In addition, we have the NIMF15, we are registered in the Official Registry of Wood Packaging Operators (ROEMBA) and we have PEFC certification.

ILERSIS box 1Our PEFC certification provides our customers with assurance that they are buying products from sustainably managed forests.

In addition, this certification gives us credibility as a company, transferring the professionalism of our daily work to our environment.

PEFC Chain of Custody certification is, as well as a necessary requirement for some of our clients, another tool that allows us to demonstrate to our clients our involvement with Corporate Social Responsibility and, especially, with environmental responsibility.

Conscience of consumption

But our commitment to the environment is not limited to responsible purchasing. We are conscious of our consumption of raw materials, as this is completely linked to the forests, so we want to apply policies that promote a repayment to the environment and to society.

We believe in the circular economy, so have installed a wooden stove in one of our facilities. This allows us to heat a space of more than 2000 m2 using the raw wooden residue and the compressed sawdust produced from the carpentry.

In addition, we are going to take advantage of the ISO 14064 certification (GHG emissions) to measure and reduce our emissions, setting a short-term goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 15% by 2020.
